This is what is referred to as a handbuilt bowl. Using the slump method, pressing clay into another form, this bowl takes shape. Since it is handbuilt, it isn't a perfect circle, and ranges from 12" to 14" across. I like using this type of construction for this kind of decoration. See the snake bowls and petroglyph bowls that are made the same way.
